Announcing: The Backlog Files
2023 was a year of experimentation across our various podcasts. We moved from Spreaker to Spotify as our primary podcast host, we expanded coverage of video games on Beware of Spoilers, we put the YouTube channel on hiatus and then brought it back with a new format, and we launched two sub-shows out of Thirty Minute Reviews to focus on old television and old video games. The results of these experiments were mixed because the new video game coverage on Beware of Spoilers did not exactly hit the numbers we were hoping for while the sub-show The Backlog Files on Thirty Minute Reviews did great numbers for the podcast.
The solution is a new podcast that blends the two. Starting on January 2nd, 2023, The Backlog Files will be spinning off into its own new podcast with weekly new episodes on Tuesday mornings at 9 AM Eastern Time. Those weekly episodes will be taking the show in a new direction, namely, we will look back at old game franchises and rank the entries. When a new game comes out, much like Beware of Spoilers, a separate bonus episode will be released where the game will be reviewed. Separating The Backlog Files into its own show will allow more listeners to find the show easier considering we will be able to properly categorize the show as about video games instead of having it sit on a podcast feed for film and television.
