With a little over seven months until release, two weeks until the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, and only two days after releasing the first trailer for Agatha All Along, Marvel Studios released a massive new teaser for the upcoming fourth Captain America movie: Captain America: Brave New World.

This entry follows up the Disney+ original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and sees Anthony Mackie reprise as Sam Wilson/Captain America alongside returning cast members Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley), Tim Blake Nelson (Samuel Sterns/The Leader), and Liv Tyler (Betty Ross). Joining the cast are Harrison Ford taking over the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt, Giancarlo Esposito in a mystery antagonistic role, and Shira Haas as Sabra. Julius Onah will be directing the film from a script written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writer Malcolm Spellman.

The decision to release this trailer today raises a few questions considering Marvel Studios has a massive presence planned at San Diego Comic Con in two weeks, including a large Hall H panel Saturday at 5:30 PM local time. Past track record for Marvel Studios indicated that this trailer would likely come before Deadpool and Wolverine because they like to promote the next big movie with a trailer attached to the current big movie. Considering Deadpool and Wolverine is the only theatrical release from Marvel Studios, it makes sense that the trailer would drop before the movie but two weeks out is a big long, especially when there is a major opportunity to showcase the trailer a few days prior to the panel.

I think this signifies that Marvel Studios intends to use the upcoming Hall H panel as a sort of bad news dump considering at that point it will be apparent that Marvel will have broken the record for largest opening weekend for an R-Rated movie by the time the panel happens. It's possible that the panel is going to announce the concrete dates for the remainder of the phase 5 and 6 which would likely include notable delays. At the same time, the new DC Studios slate could be bringing a lot of key information about Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Creature Commandos, and more so its a smart move to coast on Deadpool and Wolverine's strong performance, showcase a little of Fantastic Four and Captain America: Brave New World, and leave the big glut of positive news for D23 when they basically have an entire weekend's press cycle to themselves.  Clear up the slate, apologize without really apologizing a la this year's Pokémon Presents, and then hit the ground running later in the year.

Captain America: Brave New World releases in theaters on February 14th, 2025.
