Episode Discussion: The Acolyte Episodes 1 and 2

The Acolyte is a pretty interesting expansion of the Star Wars canon because it doubles down on one of the most important and most blatantly misunderstood aspect of the prequel trilogy. The Jedi are borderline incompetent and more invested in protecting their own interests than the interests of the galaxy. The show follows these twins (both Amandla Stenberg) who were both mistreated by the Jedi order in different ways, and have gone down divergent paths as one seeks revenge and the other seeks to help discover what happened to her sister.

Some of the dialogue can be borderline anachronistic at times (Osha talking about transferrable skills in episode one jumps out) but the show is still among some of the best Star Wars on Disney+. I do have three predictions for this season going forward:

  • The masked dark side master on the cliff that Mae is trained by is related to the Nihil.
  • That dark side master is also Qimir.
  • By the end of the season Osha will turn to the dark side with Mae.
