Lionsgate Releases The First Trailer For The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping

The first trailer for the sixth Hunger Games movie is here!

Lionsgate Releases The First Trailer For The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping

It hasn't even been a full year since Sunrise on the Reaping was released, yet we now have the first trailer for the theatrical release of the film adaptation. This movie is a sequel to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and a prequel to the original Hunger Games trilogy, and tells the story of the second Quarter Quell where Haymitch (originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson, now played by Joseph Zada) competed and won.

Of note, it's strange that the trailer was released today since last week was Lionsgate's last big release between now and the release of the movie, aside from the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic in April. If they were going to release the trailer this far before the release of the film, you'd think they would have put it before Now You See Me: Now You Don't.

This is an interesting trend we are seeing now where movies are starting to be advertised this far out from release. Earlier this year, Universal broke new ground with the release of the trailer for The Odyssey a year before it arrives in theaters and last month Disney and Marvel Studios announced that the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday would be attached to screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash next month. Considering how long the production timeline is for some of these titles, it makes sense that a trailer could be together a year out to at least start generating interest and awareness for these movies with a good amount of time before release.

The Hunger Game: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20th, 2026.
