Movie Review: Borderlands (2024)
Every once in a while a movie will come along that makes me look back and wonder if this is genuinely the worst thing I've watched in the near decade I've been doing this. We have covered a lot of bad movies ranging from Morbius to Spinning Gold and, while Borderlands is definitely in the bottom 10%, its not the worst as long as things like The New Mutants exist. That's not an endorsement of this movie in any way, it's just not completely unwatchable like some of the others we have covered in the past.
Rather than waste too much of your time with specifics, here's a quick bulleted list of some of the things that make this movie not worth watching:
- The effects are awful during action sequences which are all over the film.
- The action sequences are weirdly edited making me think the film was originally shot to be rated R before being cut back to PG-13.
- The plot is ridiculous and feels like we are back in 2016-ish when studios were trying to figure out how to do Guardians of the Galaxy with their own IP they own the rights to.
- If the plot is ridiculous, the ending is the icing on the cake and, despite the fact that I never played a Borderlands game, two sources confirmed that no, the ending of X-Men: Apocalypse is not referenced in any of the games according to who I asked.
- Clap Trap is kind of funny.
