Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a film that has been in discussion since Mad Max: Fury Road was released almost a decade ago. As such, for a long time it belonged in the category of "I'll believe this movie exists when I am sitting in a theater watching it" in the same way something like The Flash did last year. Fortunately, that is the end of where the comparisons to The Flash end.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga does not have as much bombastic action as Mad Max: Fury Road, but that would be an impossible standard to hit anyway. Instead, it adds a sense of gravitas one would save for a biblical epic to a relatively standard revenge story. Where Fury Road was kind of narrative-lite, Furiosa dives deep into the more nuanced political situations in the wasteland that were previously alluded to.
As a prequel, Furiosa does a great job of sticking with a lot of what people love about the franchise (including two huge action sequences that are among some of Miller's best) while reframing what came before it in an interesting way that only improves on Mad Max: Fury Road. This is a must-watch theatrical experience with the visuals designed for an IMAX screen.
