Movie Review: IF (2024)

Had IF come out 10 or 15 years ago, it would have had tremendous legs and we would be talking about it now as a cult classic that we talk about films like Donnie Darko. Is it perfect? No, there are a lot of narrative issues and some slight pacing problems that hold it back from being something great all the way through. That said, the beats designed to hit (both comedic and emotional) do hit every time, the effects are among some of the best in recent films, and the movie has a sense of optimism to it that has been missing from films in the last ten years or so. This is a great family film that is worth a trip to the theater this weekend. It is unfortunate that the slow death of physical media and the rise of streaming will likely cause this film to fall into relative obscurity considering no one uses Paramount+.
