I went into The Fall Guy with low expectations and, with the benefit of hindsight, I'm not quite sure why. With the current state of how building movies based on IP has been working, taking the television show and keeping the core conceit intact (a Hollywood stuntman who uses his skills to get to the bottom of some criminal activity) while taking liberties around tone and the narrative throughline is definitely a winning strategy.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt have fantastic chemistry, the comedic moments land very well, and the movie is entertaining enough where it doesn't feel as long as the just over two hour runtime. Is there room to cut? Sure, but there is also a case to be made that the film works just as well without cutting anything out.  It's also nice to watch an action-comedy that does not feel like it is doing a lot of groundwork to make a sequel since this film works as a standalone title. The Fall Guy does a great job of setting the summer movie season off to a strong start and is yet another great action film from David Leitch who is a severely underrated director (fight me).
