Looking back on Venom (the embedded audio review is from 2018 when it was originally released) in 2024 is like the physical embodiment of the meme with Walter White screaming in the car with the window closed. We are powerless to stop what would cascade into a series of terrible decisions for Sony leading to Morbius and Madame Web. Venom may not be the worst of these films, but it sets a very bad tone for what's to come as Sony attempted to build out a universe of Spider-Man-adjacent characters, especially since this entry was a financial success for the studio. The characters are shallow, the effects are terrible, the casting is odd, and it is just a series of poor decisions with a few amusing moments interspersed. This would be ranked a two if it came out today.
