On Covering The Switch 2 At Launch

This is how we will cover the Nintendo Switch 2.

So last week we got the Switch 2 Direct which revealed that the console would come out in June and would launch at $449.99 or $499.99 if you buy the bundle with Mario Kart World. That same day the tariffs were announced and Nintendo since stated they were reevaluating the costs in the wake of the economic uncertainty.

Now this is a small site affiliated with small podcasts. Our budget for the year was designed to try and absorb the cost of the Switch 2 (the budget was $400 because we guessed a $350 price plus tax), assuming we didn't get a review copy of the console from Nintendo, but with the price potentially going up, it does not make financial sense to try and close that gap, especially when the games are as expensive as they are.

Therefore, all that is to say that we will likely not be covering the Switch 2 at launch. We will eventually cover the Switch 2 from a gameplay standpoint and we will eventually play the games but right now, the allocated budget would be better used elsewhere (especially with the impending AMC A-List price increase). We will still cover news, there will just be no reviews of new Switch 2 exclusive games. That said, here are some of the games we will be covering in the near future, including some titles coming out on Switch:

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar
  • Shadow Labyrinth
  • Witchbrook
  • Tamagotchi Plaza
  • Book Bound
  • A Game About Digging A Hole
  • Merchant 64
  • Lidar Exploration Program
  • Sonic Adventure 2 Randomized*
  • Pokemon Elite Redux*

*both of these will have playthroughs on YouTube

The budget that was previously earmarked for the Switch 2 will be redistributed to our continuing early coverage of movies out of film festivals. This year we intend to have a larger presence at Tribeca, New York Film Festival, Hamptons International, Long Island International Film Expo, Stony Brook Film Festival, and others.

If you want to support the shows, the easiest way is to buy one of the books available here. All the proceeds go towards making new content for our subscribers.
