Pokemon Legends: Z-A's DLC Has A Release Date
With the release of the Mega Dimension DLC coming next month, it seems clear that Legends: Z-A is a stopgap to test new mechanics on the audience.
It's been under a month since Pokemon Legends: Z-A hit shelves and we already have a release date for the only paid DLC pack the game will be getting. Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension comes out on December 10th, 2025.
The short trailer gives a pretty substantial look at what this DLC will entail and how it will potentially upend some existing gameplay mechanics more than the base game itself did. The player will enter an alternate dimension Lumiose City filled with powerful Pokemon and new mega evolutions for older Pokemon. As part of this, there is a new mechanic that allows the player's Pokemon to be leveled above level 100, the cap that has existed since 1996.
Also of note, there is a preorder bonus that can be redeemed for a collection of specialty balls. The reason this is noteworthy is because the end of the claim period for the bonus ends right after Pokemon Day 2026.
Taken within the context of the recent leaks, this could indicate that the support for Pokemon Legends: Z-A would end relatively quickly after the release of the new DLC pack. It seems more and more that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a tech demo to try out new things for the franchise going forward, and if this game is going to tell TPCi how to move forward with the key gameplay flow (do they use traditional turn-based RPG mechanics or the new more action-oriented gamplay introduced in Z-A), they do need to make a decision reasonably quickly for a potential 2026 release. That may seem absurd, but it's likely that they've developed both over the course of the last two years and they are just waiting to see which to pull the trigger on.
Who knows if Pokemon over level 100 sticks in the future, but it's abundantly clear that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a showcase of what the franchise could be going forward, it just would have been nice to not have to pay $100 for the Switch 2 edition ($90 for the Switch edition) in total for the experience.
