Predicting The Announcements From The 2025 Pokemon Presents Presentation
Well, time to make a fool of myself again.
Another year, another opportunity for me to make a complete ass of myself predicting what's coming next week in the Pokemon Presents presentation.
Guarantee: Pokemon Go And Other Mobile Nonsense
Pokemon Go continues to be a major moneymaker for TPCi so this presentation will definitely talk about the 2025 Go Fest, the 2025 Safari Zone events, and the 2025 region event that happens in the spring. This will be the opportunity to put this game in front of a lot of people who may have lapsed. One of my stretch predictions below plays into this but a focus on Unova in the mobile games like Pokemon Sleep or Pokemon Masters EX could be an early harbinger for that being correct.
Guarantee: Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Pokemon Legends: Z-A was announced a year ago and we haven't seen anything official from TPCi since then. I think there is a possibility this is a Switch/Switch 2 bridge title but more likely since this is coming over a month before the Switch 2 launch lineup announcement, this is just a Switch game. We get starter announcements, what the Kalosian forms of their final evolutions look like, and maybe some of the other Kalosian forms. The game comes out in the first half of 2025.
Guarantee: Gen X
Next year is the 30th anniversary of the franchise and the next generation to come out will be Generation X. The smart move would be to show something at the end of the event teasing what's coming. It would be baffling if they did not do this, but it is TPCi so it's not outside the realm of possibility. I'm thinking it's just a taste of what the region will be, similar to the Scarlet and Violet tease that strangely was an homage to All The President's Men. The game releases November 2026.
Stretch: Pokemon Black and White Remakes
Legends is skipping Gen 5, we saw a few references to Unova in the DLC for Scarlet and Violet, and this is the year of Unova in Pokemon Go. It's time for Black and White remakes, maybe outsourced to another studio, and probably coming out November 2025.
Clown: HD2D Remakes
It is the year of our lord two thousand twenty-five and none of the mainline Pokemon games are available on Nintendo Switch Online. Logically, there is no reason why generations one through three are not available to play unless they are planning to remake these games again. We just saw Kanto in Let's Go and people have been clamoring for a return to Johto and Hoenn so for the 30th Anniversary in 2026, one year from the date of this event, they release HD2D remakes of Pokemon Red through Pokemon Emerald, and I will say this will include FireRed and LeafGreen.
Other Notes:
So you probably notice my lack of optimism regarding the return of existing franchises. I've predicted Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness remakes, new Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games in the past, but not this time. This is the last presentation announcing software for Nintendo consoles before the April 2nd Direct announcing the launch lineup for the Switch 2 and I could see some of these titles come to the Switch 2, not the Switch. I don't think these titles are big enough that TPCi would want to hold them specifically for this direct but a Pokemon spin-off title would bolster the launch window lineup for the Switch 2. If these are coming, we will see an announcement in April.
