In the first episode of Thirty Minute Reviews, Adam sets up how the show will work: each week they'll discuss a movie, game, or book, announced ahead of time, with a rule that nothing gets covered until it has been out at least three weeks on DVD so listeners aren't forced to pay for a theater ticket to follow along. He also notes the two hosts are recording remotely over Skype from opposite ends of the country.
Most of the conversation is about upcoming and recent films. They spend a good stretch on the Fantastic Four reboot, the Deadpool teaser attached to the end of its trailer, Fox's late review embargo, the decision to hand the film to a director with only one prior hit, and whether the redesigned Thing works. That leads into the separate Deadpool teaser and its "five-time Academy Award viewer, Ryan Reynolds" joke, with Adam predicting it'll be better than Batman v Superman. They talk about Avengers: Age of Ultron, including Adam's annoyance that the film cuts off the "Avengers Assemble" line before it's finished, and a shared comparison to Live Free or Die Hard trimming its most famous line for a PG-13 rating, which spins off into whether Die Hard counts as a Christmas movie.
The back half turns to the fall 2015 slate. Adam names Star Wars: The Force Awakens as his most anticipated film, discussing its use of practical effects and puppetry, the returning original cast, and his theory that Kylo Ren is being positioned as the trilogy's overarching villain rather than a one-film antagonist. He and his co-host also cover Spectre and its espionage-thriller setup, drawing a comparison to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man as a heist movie, and the Maze Runner sequel The Scorch Trials. Running through it all is the show's alternating format, with certain dates marked for the co-host to pick the film, and a two-week Red Dawn stretch used as an example of how the DVD-availability rule shapes the schedule.
